Hundred Wood to open in Village Park

Opening Sept. 8 is the new campus restaurant, Hundred Wood. The ecologically minded gastropub will feature recycled wooden furniture and more affordable prices than its predecessor.

Local restaurateurs Dennis and Melody Scott are opening Hundred Wood, a new gastropub that will fill the vacant spot in the 100 Wood Street building left by Osteria 100 last spring.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of the Point Park University community,” said Dennis Scott in a press release from the University. “Our goal is to provide students, faculty and downtown workers a place for delicious, fresh food in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.”

Hundred Wood will feature a menu focused on lunch with sandwiches, burgers and pizza.  Food will be available not only for dining-in, but take-out as well. Students said. “To that end, all the furniture [in the restaurant] is made from reclaimed lumber. The tables were actually in an old warehouse in San Francisco at one time.”

In addition to more affordable prices, the Scotts plan to host open mic nights where students can come perform music, improv and poetry readings.

“We’re looking at this more like a partnership with the University,” Dennis Scott said. “Every college needs a place where the kids feel comfortable, where they can go hang out and call it their own.”

Dennis and Melody Scott have been in the restaurant business for many years and previously owned the Market Street Deli and Asiago Express which were located in the PPG Place food court until they closed recently.

“The Scotts’ hardworking commitment to their business, along with their energetic advocacy for Downtown, makes them a great match to our campus community,” said University President Paul Hennigan in a press release from the University.

Even though Hundred Wood has not opened yet, students are already seeing appeal in it. Freshman biology major Megan Moroney sees it as a good alternative to other restaurants in the city.

“Most of the other places to eat around here are expensive or crowded,” Moroney said.

Although originally planned to open in time for the beginning of the semester, the opening of Hundred Wood has been pushed back to Sept. 8. When it opens, it will operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, and on Thursday through Saturday it will remain open until midnight.
