Point Park expands classrooms further through the city of Pittsburgh

Stage AE, located on the North side, is commonly known for supplying the city of Pittsburgh with rarely seen but generally known shows and events. So far this year, musicians like Girl Talk, Wiz Khalifa and Snoop Dogg have all graced the venue and paid gratitude for their loyal fan base. Many Point Park University Students are familiar with the venue and are about to become even more acquainted due to the new classroom space being built for Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management majors. In the fall, students studying SAEM will be offered classes at the venue. Not only will these classes be beneficial to SAEM major’s education but the opportunity to take classes at the venue in order to gain the real life experience of working in the entertainment industry seems like a wish come true.”I think it sounds like a great opportunity for Point Park University as a school and then also for the students. Not many schools would be able to offer such a chance at learning their trade up close and personal, and even being in that environment sounds very inspiring,” said Karissa Dowlan, freshman and Forensic Science major. After months of planning between Stage AE and Point Park University, the classroom space is said to hold 25 seats; classes will be offered from Monday to Thursday, holding two classes a day; each semester all serving relevance to the course offerings at Point Park UniversityThis opportunity will supply proximity to internships and job opportunities inside of the venue. Although Stage AE classroom will not be open until the fall of 2011 semester, SAEM majors and other Point Park University students have already profited from close alliances with the venue.  Many students are working in various facilities for concerts, special events, as well as being interns for the marketing and promotions office. The opportunity of being in the venue is exciting to students in the SAEM program that are looking for the hands on and upfront experience. “I’m really excited about this and I think it’s such a great opportunity to be immersed in the field of work we want to be involved in.” Says Neal Dudash, sophomore and SAEM major who is looking forward to seeking out an internship while also improving his insight into Sports, Art and especially, entertainment management.Considering the SAEM program was originated in 2002 it’s come a long way from the ‘multimedia conference room’ located at PNC Park which was used for workshops and alumni mixers to a collaboration with Stage AE. As word spreads about the new chance to be in such close proximity with their dream jobs, the more the excitement around campus builds up for students and the professionals involved alike.”As time goes on we’re going to meet a lot of great people who are going to be able to shed light on the industry and open up some doors for our students and that’s really the key; the fact that we’re over there we have awareness and exposure and it’s not just Wood St, but the entire city of Pittsburgh is right here for our students. ” SAEM Professor, Steve Tanzilli”I think its going to be a great opportunity for us, I’m excited to be able to experience something new since I just focus on managing theater events, but I feel like it’s also going to show me different sides of the trade that I’m unfamiliar with, Said Meredith Savage, freshman and SAEM major.Point Park University has always called the city of Pittsburgh its campus and with the expansions and connections constantly growing across the city, it only seems true. This prospect for Sports, art, and entertainment management student’s will not only help them learn the basic fundamentals, first hand but will also help spearhead their careers and their futures.
