Women’s soccer drops pair of games

Starting off the season, the women’s soccer team had two away games against good opponents on its schedule.
On Monday, the team traveled to Washington and Jefferson (W&J) and lost 2-0. However, that loss will not affect the team’s overall record because it was an exhibition. On Saturday, the game was at Rio Grande. The girls fought hard but were defeated 1-0.”We are looking to improve more on controlling the field, specifically in the center. We are also looking to use our outside midfielders a lot more to help with transitioning from offensive to defensive and vice versa,” said Captain Midfielder Megan Kuntz, during an interview Sunday. With another game coming up on Tuesday at Muskingum University, the team needed to improve on aspects of its game.”We need to have better passing and more creativity patterns to get better and more opportunities for shots as well as just settling down and get into our game and not so much into the other teams game,” said Kuntz. The members of the women’s soccer team have a positive outlook on the rest of the season and will not let these two losses be a setback. For their next game multiple things will be worked on including: passing, scoring and playing hard the full game.”We are looking to continue with the hard work we displayed on Saturday. We want to look to finish the creativity and get some goals,” said Captain Defenseman Angie Abel in an interview Sunday.  Having two losses to start off the season can be looked at as either a negative or a positive.”With these past games it has shown us what works well and who works well together. We have pushed ourselves and showed each other that we are not giving up after these goals have been scored,” said Abel. The Pioneers continue to view their season with a positive outlook.Members of the team have high expectations as individuals and as a team.”We are working to improve and work off the success we had last season and to finish games that we lost. We are looking to play a full 90 minutes. We set high standards and goals for ourselves because we can reach them it just takes one game at a time,” Abel said.On Tuesday the team will take on Muskingum. Last season, they won the game with a 3-0 shut- out.
