Athlete Profile: Olivia Stawovy

Written By Jordan Smith

At the young age of 3 years old, Olivia Stawovy picked up a club for the first time. Her family owns the Cedarbrook golf course in Belle Vernon, Pa. It only made sense that she was born to play.

Stawovy grew up in the Greensburg area. She would attend Greensburg Central Catholic where she began playing competitively. She joined the team her sophomore year and helped lead her team to three straight WPIAL championships.

During her time at Point Park, she’s played golf her last three years. Her best performance was in her junior year shooting a 79 at Belterra Golf Club in Florence, Indiana.

“I remember crying tears of joy after I finished that round,” Stawovy said.

In the spring of 2020, the world changed as the global pandemic began. Golf as well as all other spring sports were canceled. For most incoming seniors, anxiety settled in as they never knew if they’d play again with their teammates. However, Stawovy was not worried.

“I had a feeling we would end up playing in the spring, even if the fall season didn’t work out, she said. “Luckily, the fall season happened and now we get to play in the spring too!”

In the midst of the quarantine, she spent a lot of time with her family, made some TikToks, worked out at home and binge-watched the show Prison Break.

So far in the spring season, Stawovy shot a 92, in the Shawnee State Invitational at Elks Country Club in Ohio, giving her sixth place in the competition. She also competed in the River States Conference Women’s Golf Fall Preview. In the two-day tournament, Stawovy shot a 97 and 93.

Stawovy is a senior at Point Park University. She’s going to finish school in the spring of 2021 with a degree in Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management (SAEM). She’s a current member of the SAEM club on campus. With a passion to work in sports, she’s worked as a Guest Services attendant at Heinz Field and is currently doing an internship in the Ticket Operations Department for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Her dream job is to work in either social media or event management for the PGA Tour.

“I’d love to travel to the different tournaments around the world and be a part of making them a success.”

Stawovy said there are two big inspirations in her life.

“My family and God. My family models everything to be in life: respectful, loving, and hard-working. Additionally, I’ve been blessed with so many gifts and opportunities and feel like I owe it to God to use these gifts to be the best version of myself.”

Both the women’s and men’s golf teams are hopeful for a full season in the spring of 2021. More competitions and opportunities for the student athletes would be great for everyone.

Look forward to the spring 2021 golf season. Stawovy is not done yet with her impressive golf career.
