The Globe is an editorially independent newspaper

Written By Jake Dabkowski, Editor-in-Chief February 22, 2023
The Globe is an editorially independent newspaper. We are entirely student-run, and no one from the university is allowed to tell us what we can or cannot publish. The minute that the university makes a decision on what can be published, we will stop being a newspaper.

OPINION: It’s not weird to not watch the Super Bowl

Written By Jake Dabkowski, Editor-In-Chief February 15, 2023

I did not watch the Super Bowl. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, but numerous people I know were shocked by this fact.    There were two different reasons people were surprised. First,...

Globe’s Point: Take care of your mental health.

February 15, 2023
Happy week six of classes and mid-February, Pioneers! We sincerely hope that this semester has been going well for you. This time of year can be really stressful with midterms looming and seasonal depression (gotta love the one mid-60s day, though!) — all on top of other stressors. To say that college is a lot would be an understatement, but we are here to let you know that you are strong, and we want to remind you to take care of yourself.

Point Park needs to remove the printing budget

Written By Steph Weiland, Staff Writer February 15, 2023
I’ve always wondered why the printing budget never showed up on the Lenovo computers. As someone who uses the school’s Lenovo computers daily, it would be nice if I could see my printing budget instead of having to calculate it by hand.

Brussalis needs to confirm his active allyship for the LGBTQIA+ community

Written By August Stephens, Opinions Editor February 15, 2023
The election of Chris Brussalis to the position of interim president is a direct threat to the fostering of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Point Park University. We as students, faculty, and staff deserve to feel belonging in a community which is marketed as one of the most accepting college environments in Pittsburgh. Upon the release of the information of Chris’ donations to Republican politicians during the 2022 election cycle and Christina Brussalis’ removal of the Pine-Richland Policy 832 equity policy, that is evident.

Doctors should listen to their patients emotions, too

Let me start this piece by stating that I admire those who work in the medical field and would not want to seem as though I am writing this out of anything other than disrespect.

Point Park maintenance needs to do better

Written By Erin Yudt, Editor-Elect February 8, 2023
ter returning from winter break, my roommate and I, who live on the eighth floor of Boulevard Apartments in Tower B, were shocked to find small white specks throughout our carpet. We looked around the room to see where it would be coming from, then finally looked up. There was a huge crack in our ceiling, looking like the opening to the Upside Down in Stranger Things.

Globe’s Point: We need better communication and involvement from the university

February 8, 2023
Greetings, Pioneers! Happy week five of classes! What a wild ride this semester has already been. Remember to stop and check in on yourself psychically and mentally often.

Pittsburgh universities should stop “death of a loved one” email policy

Written By August Stephens, Opinions Editor February 8, 2023
Recently a staff member shared that at Point Park University and select neighboring universities, there is an odd Death in the Family policy. If there is a death of a close loved one in a staff or faculty member’s family, it can get emailed to every other faculty member of the university.

Political activism should not be reactionary

Written By Jake Dabkowski, Editor-in-Chief February 1, 2023
So much of the political discourse in this country is reactionary. That is a really bad thing.

Point Park should revamp diversity initiatives

Globe’s Point: Be mindful of the events of the past week

February 1, 2023
Happy week four of classes, Pioneers! It is hard to believe that we are already one month into the semester. We hope you are all doing well in your classes and well mentally. A new month can bring a little boost to all of us, putting the struggles of the past month behind us.
