Sharing traditions should be as natural as a conversation

Culture helps us to connect to others, what better place to connect then at your university. We should enjoy our four years here by immersing in as much activities as possible. The Cultural Summit was a great way to experience our school. Point Park University has a great deal of diversity which was  highlighted at the Cultural Summit.      A hip hop performance from Impulse, belly dancers and traditional Turkish food were just a few of the things you could enjoy at the 2nd annual Cultural Summit. Staff and students approached Lawrence Hall lobby in hope of tasting traditional international food. In addition, tables were set to honor traditions around the world. People lined up to get there names written in Arabic and Japanese Calligraphy. Others were drawn to the free henna tattoos.       I believe as a freshman at Point Park it’s important to get a feel for the university. By going to different events such as the cultural summit one can begin to feel at home. I was in awe of the representation of cultures. I believe it is everyone’s duty to experience other cultures in addition to their own, to make themselves as aware as possible. The Cultural Summit acted as a window into  other worlds. Sharing traditions should be as natural as a conversation. Expressing and understanding each others culture is a very important part of understanding different people.            The Cultural Summit summoned every possible piece of joy inside me. My spirit was awakened by the rhythm of the drums, the energy of hip hop dancer and the spices in the food. Sitting right in front of all the action was hardly enough. I have always wanted to travel; the summit made me that much more eager to explore. After all what can be better than eating Chinese food in China. The Cultural Summit did an amazing job at opening my eyes. Humans have an automatic connection to each other. Even though I do not understand Arabic I could still understand the emotion captured in each lyric of a song.      The Cultural Summit is something you do not want to miss next year. I can imagine the festivities will only get bigger and better with each year. If you enjoy fun, food and performances, then this is the event to look  forward to. Awakening your spirit with music from all over the world could make the learning experience that much more easier.
