Classes are now in session at Point Park, which means the Campus Activities Board (CAB) is already holding events to help students keep their work and leisure time balanced.
“We really want students to come out and enjoy their time by having fun events, which we all put our heart and soul into,” Nicole Miller, sophomore advertising and public relations major and the Public Relations Coordinator for CAB, said in a phone interview last Friday.
“This semester we want to keep providing awesome events, and keep evolving along with Point Park and Pittsburgh,” Louis Spanos, Junior sports arts and entertainment management (SAEM) major, who is also CAB’s Experience Pittsburgh Coordinator, said in a phone interview last Friday.
This month, CAB will start off the new semester by holding new events, such as a drag show Jan. 20, featuring headliner Bambi Deerest, a Point Park alumni.
“The drag show is going to be a really unique and different kind of thing, and we’re expecting to have a good turnout,” Miller said.
On Jan. 27, CAB will host an event they call Pizza Palooza, where different pizzas from several different restaurants located in and around Downtown Pittsburgh will be supplied for students.
“There’s going to be a ton of pizza from different places there, and students will get to vote on which one they think is the best,” Justina Cincotti, sophomore global cultural studies major and the Special Events Coordinator for CAB, said in a phone interview last Friday.
“I’m excited for Pizza Palooza because it’s a more different event that we’ve ever had, and I’m just really hungry,” Spanos said.
Jan. 21 is the next CAB bingo night, something that will remain a monthly event. This month’s theme for the night will be cinema.
“We’re going to have awesome decorations and we’ll be giving away prizes, like a life-size Darth Vader standee,” Cincotti said.
Students already had the chance to attend some CAB events earlier this month. Jan. 13 saw students skating the night away at Ice Skating With CAB, which took place at The Rink at PPG Place.
“This year’s ice skate had the best attendance yet; the cold didn’t keep people from coming,” Spanos, who was in charge of planning the event, said.
Earlier this month was the Glow in the Dark Dance, which took place Jan. 14 in the Lawrence Hall ballroom.
“The Glow in the Dark Dance was a phenomenal time,” Miller said. “Everyone was dancing until the music stopped, but then they all yelled for another song.”
Miller said she was happy and relieved to see such a great turnout, especially since it is difficult to get the word out to students before the semester even starts.
CAB will continue to plan and host events throughout the semester to keep students engaged with each other and the city.
“We here at CAB will have all events for this semester finalized by the end of the month, so keep checking back with us to see what’s coming up,” Spanos said.
“We’ll be having different kinds of events every month, so you can expect to see anything and everything,” Cincotti said.
