The time is finally here: “Big” Ben Roethlisberger’s return to the Steelers and the NFL. The Steelers were able to complete the four-game mission without Big Ben under center, and they were able to win three of the four games. I applaud Dennis Dixon and Charlie Batch for being able to keep the offense in check in these four games and get the team to 3-1. Though it was not stellar play, and it is obvious that having Big Ben would have been a lot better, but the players played well enough to get the team through the four games.I tip my hat, though, to the Steelers defense. Without the defense playing as it has, the Steelers would not be 3-1 right now. It has been able to keep the opposing teams off the board. It held the Falcons to nine points, held the league’s best running back to under 50 yards on the ground, held down a young offense in Tampa Bay and stopped the running game to the rival Ravens. I attended Sunday’s game against the Ravens, and I felt like the Steelers should have won the game. People picked the Ravens to go to the Super Bowl this season, and the team could barely beat Charlie Batch’s Steelers on Sunday. If Roethlisberger would have played under center, the game would have been over quickly.Who do I blame this loss on?Jeff Reed.He missed two crucial field goals that could have given the Steelers a 4-0 record– 45 and 49-yard field goals that could have at least sent the game into overtime. He has already missed as many field goals as he did last season, and which he cannot afford to miss when the Steelers are playing an offense without Big Ben. Points are crucial, especially in this situation, and he blew it. This is the guy that wants a contract extension. Good luck with that Reed. Maybe you can take your anger out on another paper towel dispenser. With a 3-1 record and the franchise quarterback back in action, the Steelers are currently one of the best teams in the league. When a defense is able to step up its game big time in the first four games, fans can feel even more confident about the coming stretch of games. Before the season started, the defense had something to prove. It did not play well at the end of last season and had to come in hard this season. It has. With Big Ben back, he has this week to get re-accuainted with the offense, which can really open things up for receivers Mike Wallace, Antwaan Randle El and Hines Ward. The first four games proved hard for them to make plays with Batch and Dixon at quarterback, but now they can make more with Roethlisberger. This can also help Rashard Mendenhall because the opposing defense has to plan for both him and Big Ben Look for the Steelers to be a great team the rest of the way. They have what it takes to make another run.A franchise quarterback? Check.Star running back? Check.Lockdown defense? Check. Here we go, Steelers, here we go.
Steelers ready for Big Ben’s return.
