The ‘Out of the Darkness’ walk on March 28, 2025 encouraged students to get out and take a stand for suicide awareness. Additionally, students also had the opportunity to visit mental health care organizations tabling in Village Park, do activities related to one’s well-being and pet therapy dogs.
The event, made possible by Director of Counseling Services Cassandra Moffat, Vice President of Enrollment Management Marlin Collingwood, Point Park Alumni Morgan Smith, her mom Becky Smith and various other organizations, was held through the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (ASFP), which holds these walks all over the country.
A total of 201 staff, faculty, students, and community members registered for the walk.
“These walks are held to raise awareness about suicide on college campuses and to help fundraise for AFSP so they can continue to make suicide prevention and mental health awareness a national priority,” Moffat said.
