Point Park students enrolled in the university’s Sports PR and Advertising course planned an event package for students, titled Bleacher Bash, that offers a unique game-day experience at PNC Park on Wednesday.
According to a press release sent out by members of the class, the all-new concept aims to deliver a first-of-its-kind fan experience for Point Park students only, at an affordable price. The Bleacher Bash will feature activities throughout the game as the Pittsburgh Pirates battle the Washington Nationals, with the first pitch set for 6:40 p.m.
The bash also includes a free giveaway with the purchase of a ticket.
Pittsburgh Pirates play-by-play announcer and Point Park alum Greg Brown shared that he is excited to see the Bleacher Bash come to life.
“The Bleacher Bash is set to be an unforgettable night at the ballpark,” Brown said. “I’m thrilled to see the creativity of Point Park students bring this event to life, providing family and friends with an incredible experience at the best ballpark in the league.”
According to the students planning the event, the festivities will begin as soon as students step into the park. The Jumbotron will be focused on the bleachers, showcasing exclusive giveaways, activities during the game, and more.
The students enrolled in the Sports PR and Advertising class operate a dynamic marketing department and have been preparing for this event all semester. Each student is assigned specific roles to contribute and master effective marketing strategies and teamwork to drive ticket sales.
“I am proud of how far these students have come since the first day of class in January,” professor Alex Moser said. “Their marketing techniques and teamwork as a classroom have been amazing to see firsthand.”
Moser is in his third year as an adjunct faculty member at Point Park. He serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Wigle Whiskey and worked for the Pirates for over eight years.
“Watching them put on the first-ever Bleacher Bash with the Pirates is awesome.” Moser said. “It is exciting to see them put what they have learned into action to support a Pittsburgh sports team.”
Tickets can be purchased for a discounted price online and print marketing with further information is distributed around campus. Prices range between $28-33 and are available the day of the event.
