Point Park Globe announces new logo, website

The Point Park Globe, Point Park University’s student-run newspaper, today unveiled a new logo and launched a new website at ppuglobe.com as it approaches its 50th anniversary celebration in February.

“This new website will help take the Globe to the next level,” said Editor-in-Chief Josh Croup. “We were pleased with our old website, but knew it was time for a change. We are always looking for places to improve, and strengthening our online presence along with our brand identity was a priority of mine when I took over as editor-in-chief in January. Our new and shortened domain name will match our three social media account names and will help strengthen the brand of our paper.”

The Globe’s new website includes a widget to listen live to the Globe’s campus media partners at WPPJ where audiences can tune in to student programming including “Globe Live,” a weekly news show detailing the stories in each week’s Globe. A multimedia feature on the new website will allow students from U-View, Point Park’s television station, to share video content. The new website also includes an interactive PDF version of each week’s print edition, a live sports score ticker and more.

“Point Park University prides itself on providing students with real world experiences,” said Editor-Elect Alexander Popichak. “In reinventing our website, we are creating an opportunity for students to work in a multimedia space, collaborating with U-View and WPPJ. We are working to cultivate an environment that lets students work across platforms, not only better serving our staff but also the students who rely on us for campus news.”

SNO Sites is the new hosting partner for ppuglobe.com. Archived content from pointparkglobe.com was migrated to ppuglobe.com with the help of SNO Sites.

The new logo for the Globe was designed by junior multimedia major and Globe Graphic Designer Arianna Khalil. The logo contains seven vertical lines, representing the Globe’s newsroom and office locations on the seventh floor of Lawrence Hall. The four horizontal lines represent the Globe’s four main content sections which are news, features, opinions and sports.

The launch of ppuglobe.com and new logo will help lead into the Globe’s 50th anniversary celebration in February. The first issue of the Globe was published on Feb. 8, 1967.

“The Globe and Point Park University have both evolved with each other over the past 50 years, and this is just another page in our history book,” Croup said. “As we continue to strengthen our online presence and adapt to the Digital Age, we are thankful that Point Park University continues to support print journalism. We will continue to distribute print editions of the paper on campus every week as we work towards building a website that will benefit the Globe staff and the Point Park University community.”

Students interested in writing or taking photographs for the Point Park Globe can send an email to [email protected]. The Globe is welcoming and accepting of all majors. No prior experience is required to write or shoot for the Globe. The first pitch meeting of the semester will take place Aug. 29 at the Globe newsroom in 712 Lawrence Hall where students can hear what stories need covered for upcoming issue.
