Pioneer Public – Sydney Miller

Sydney Miller’s two majors are almost polar opposites. Miller is a sophomore dance and forensic science double major, and entered Point Park knowing exactly what she wanted to do.
“I’ve always liked dance so obviously I wanted to dance,” Miller said. “And then I think I just found forensics interesting and I wanted to learn more about it, because in high school I never really learned about it, and so I was like ‘oh, I’ll see how it goes’ and I decided to try it out.”
Forensic science interested Miller because she enjoyed problem-solving.
“I think I like the puzzle of solving crimes, like stereotypical forensic science, but I think I like using science to find something better, to discover something or find a killer,” Miller said.
One of Miller’s main difficulties in double majoring is trying to schedule her courses.
“It’s hard to find classes that don’t clash,” Miller said, “I have to take certain dance classes but they’re at the same time as science classes, so I have to take a lot of summer classes. And I came in with a lot of credits and so that helps.”
In addition to her courses, Miller is involved in dance club and tap club and also works at Einstein Bros. Bagels in Market Square. Despite her busy schedule, Miller says that she still has time for friends on weekends, and she also sees them in class.
After graduation, Miller hopes to continue to dance, and to use forensic science as more of a backup.
“I’m more leaning towards dance, so I want to find something in the dance field,” Miller said, “And then in some rare occasion where I can’t dance, or can’t find anything to do I’ll move over to forensic science. But I think dance is where I want to be. I just kind of have like an academic side to me so I think it’s just kind of fulfilling that while I use my creative side in dance.”
