The Globe’s Point – The government is whack, yo

We’ve all been exposed to this immature blame game our government has become obsessed with over the past week – is it a Schumer shutdown or a Trump shutdown?

We’ve come to the realization that it doesn’t matter.  Politicians are too busy shifting blame, unable to focus on the root of the problem – creating policy to benefit the American people.

Our president was too concerned over the weekend with watching reruns of himself slamming Obama during the 2013 shutdown instead of buckling down and figuring out a compromise that will suit both sides.

A year into the Trump presidency and the stalemate government is so divided and backwards that propaganda seems to be highest on the agenda, not actual change.

This dangerous tactic of pitting the American people against one side or the other needs to stop. The rhetoric on both sides of the proverbial line is unacceptable and childish.

We must not fall for such cheap blows to our intellect and recognize that if either “side” of our government isn’t doing its job then it is more important to actively fix the problem instead of fixating on pointing a finger.

With young, educated people getting more involved in the political conversation, it is our hope that we may help others see through this facade. College graduates have a hard enough time finding jobs to pay back their immense loans, many looking to be on the government’s payroll for its security and benefits.

Instances like government shutdowns sow the seeds of doubt within its citizens minds – causing an air of uncertainty to waft throughout the country. In the end, it is the average American citizen being punished for politicians dragging their feet.

In a Democracy, a representative’s role is to serve their constituents. In this new administration, that idea has become precariously unbalanced – threatening our individual lives with the ambiguity of what tomorrow may bring.
