Pioneer Public – Shelby Armetta
September 9, 2020
Shelby Armetta is a junior business management major at Point Park University, and, this year, she is the Vice President of programming with the Campus Activities Board (CAB).
This is Armetta’s second year working with CAB. She initially got involved after her freshman year at Point Park.
“At the end of my freshman year, I realized I wasn’t really happy with myself or my place at Point Park,” Armetta said. “I knew I wanted to get more involved in the following year.”
From there, she saw that CAB advertising were hiring for positions on their Executive Board and decided to apply. She had event planning experience and was hired as the Special Events Coordinator.
“I remember being so excited when I got the call from Brad [Kovalcik] offering me the job,” she said. “Things finally felt like they were falling into place.”
Armetta thrived in her role last year, hosting events such as an Ice Cream Social and Just Ducky Day.
“Ice Cream Social was the first event that I had put together myself,” she said. “And it gave me the confidence boost I needed to feel good about the things I was working on.”
Armetta’s Just Ducky Day event featured live ducks on campus, and this event was awarded “Program of the Year” at the CAB banquet last year.
Now, Armetta has stepped into the role of the Vice President of Programming.
“The job of the Vice President of Programming is to supervise each of the three programming coordinators and help them with their events,” she explained. “I have one-on-one meetings with each of them every week to discuss the things they are working on and guide them with everything they need.”
Armetta will be seeing some familiar faces on the board this semester.
“The other accomplishment I am proud of is having two of my committee members from last year currently serving on the Executive Board this year,” Armetta said.
She is hoping to accomplish even more as VP of Programming, and to have a positive impact on her programmers.
“My VP helped me grow so much both professionally and personally last year, and I want to be able to do the same for others,” she said.
Armetta is looking forward to working even more with the Executive Board in 2020.
“Despite us not really getting to see each other, we have all clicked very well,” she said. “I genuinely think we will be able to do amazing things this year.”
