With the start of the new semester here at Point Park, there are bound to be some new changes. One area of change that sticks out among the rest are the changes that have taken place in Point Cafe.
Unlike last year, students can now only use their meal plan to purchase one meal a day from Point Cafe. Students can choose between lunch and dinner, but both meals are still available in the dining hall. Each meal is equivalent to the price of $12.00. Anything over the allotted amount can be paid with flex dollars or a credit card. Sushi is not included in this meal option.
Students at Point Park used to start their day with a breakfast sandwich from the cafe’s breakfast option, Breakfast Express. That option is now unavailable in the Boost Mobile app.
“It was usually pretty good,” Junior Sports Arts & Entertainment Major De’ante Johnson said.
An email from Kristy Weiss, general manager of CulinArt at Point Park, revealed that there is a new option taking the place of Breakfast Express: Urban Eats. In the email, Weiss refers to Urban Eats as, “a series of rotating concepts that YOU get to pick.” This dining option made its debut with the “MAC & CHEESY” concept.
Students will get the opportunity to choose the next variety of foods provided through Urban Eats by picking the selection they prefer on the boost Mobile App. The options for this week are Meatball Mania, Bao Buns, Wilder Wings, and more.
“I think replacing the Breakfast Express was a great idea because nobody was really eating it,” sophomore education major Apollo Gipe said. “I saw maybe three people ever get food while I was down there, and I only ever got it once. I’m glad we’re getting more options and optimizing the menu.”
The hours for Point Cafe are as listed below:

“The cafeteria food is something we have to eat pretty much every day, so I’m excited to be able to pick out what we want to eat,” said freshman forensic science major Percy Stroddard. “I’m very picky and I’m the type to always want to see the options, so it’s cool that we get to do that now.”
The Globe reached out to Kristy Weiss to determine the reasons behind these changes but were unable to receive a response.
