On Monday, Feb. 19, SGA held a meeting to discuss their upcoming elections ahead of spring break, debating how students should cast their ballots.
Following the passing of Resolution BL.02122024, any student regardless of experience in student government can run for executive committee positions like president or vice president.
SGA anticipated that this change would result in an uptick of student participation.
Chief of Staff Frankie Bracey proposed holding the vote in person and having students submit paper ballots.
Senator Riley Mahon said he disagreed.
“I don’t see why we’re doing paper ballots unless we’re anticipating voter fraud,” said Mahon.
SGA ultimately agreed to hold the vote online, but to offer a QR Code in person for students to scan to vote, as suggested by Senator Robert Fornataro.
Robert Fornataro was officially appointed a Senator by the legislative body this meeting.
He was previously a Senator-at-Large.
Vice President Trevor FitzSimmons said the recent Washington D.C. trip, sponsored in part by SGA, was a “huge success.”
“I want to thank everybody who helped plan and went on the trip,” FitzSimmons said.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee discussed its upcoming campus event plans.
DEI is in contact with the Autonomous Body Shop van. The van offers free condoms and Plan B, among other sexual and general health items.
SGA approved Emergency Funding to the Student Accounting Association by vote of 8-0 with one abstention.
The club was approved to receive $145.01.
There will be no legislative body meeting next week, in observance of spring break.
The next SGA meeting will be held on March 4 in LH200. Anyone is welcome to attend.
