President-elect Kyle Maclaughlin and Vice President-elect Dillion Peterson are set to assume control of SGA next semester.
Both candidates won by slim margins of a little over 50%. Maclaughlin won with 90 of 163 total votes and Peterson achieved 86 of 162 total votes.
Current President Marc Palombo congratulated the duo on their win during SGA’s weekly meeting on Monday, April 8, ensuring that he would do his best to ensure an effective transfer of power.
“I very much want to meet with you a lot this whole month,” Palombo said.
He and the executive body are beginning to draft a bylaw allowing the President and Vice President to live on-campus the entire year for free, Palombo said.
The current Constitution gives them free on-campus housing for the summer, but not the fall or spring.
“We were planning to live off campus,” Peterson said. “But since we got elected we changed to live on campus so we can govern better.”
In lieu of the total eclipse that took place during the meeting, many senators were absent. Only five were in attendance by the time the meeting was called to order.
Current Vice President Trevor FitzSimmons expressed his disdain for the lack of attendance.
“This is a disservice to the student body and a disservice to the organization that not everyone showed up today,” said FitzSimmons. “I am very disappointed in this and the student body should be as well.”
FitzSimmons is often critical of senators’ attendance, frequently starting weekly meetings with similar statements.
Due to the lapse in attendance, the body was unable to vote on the Constitution of the Black Diamondettes Majorette and Step Team. The vote will take place during next week’s meeting.
Pioneer Community Day, hosted by SGA, will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 1-5 p.m. in Village Park.
The next SGA meeting will be held April 15 in UC212 at 3:15 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend.
