These songs will help you fall in love with autumn

We’re in the middle of the autumn season, and with so many things to do, music for the season is a must. Here is a playlist of songs that feel and sound like fall.

Like Real People Do – Hozier
Almost all Hozier songs sound like autumn to me. This song in particular is very soft and one of my favorites to listen to when getting ready on early fall mornings. The lyrics to “Like Real People Do” can also be seen as kind of eerie: “I had a thought dear, however scary / About that night, the bugs and the dirt / Why were you digging, what did you bury? / Before those hands pulled me from the earth” sounds a little zombie-like to some, which also works for the Halloween season.

Season of the Witch – Donovan
This one is pretty self-explanatory, but still a great one nonetheless. “Season of the Witch” is the perfect song for fall, both with the general vibes of the song and the lyrics — autumn is the season of the witch.

Motion Sickness – Phoebe Bridgers
The cover of Phoebe Bridgers’ album “Stranger in the Alps” is a photo of someone with a sheet over their head like a ghost. “Motion Sickness,” a song from the album, reminds me of fall both because of the picture and just the sound of the song itself.

Lost in My Mind – The Head and the Heart
Like Hozier, many of The Head and the Heart’s songs remind me of fall. I think soft, folky music goes really well with the season, and this band’s music is just that. This song reminds me of the drive over to a pumpkin patch.

Death With Dignity – Sufjan Stevens
Again, soft music is my favorite kind to listen to in the fall. “Death With Dignity” is one of my favorite songs. It also reminds me of fall because it was the song behind the opening scene of an episode of one of my favorite shows, “This Is Us.” I understand that is an extremely niche reason to remind me of fall, but still.

The Wolves & The Ravens – Rogue Valley
Another soft song, “The Wolves & The Ravens” is from the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The title kind of works for Halloween, but it really is an autumn song to me because of the soft sound. Like “Like Real People Do,” I like to listen to this on cool early mornings.

All These Things I’ve Done – The Killers
This is probably the most upbeat song on this list. The Killers are a great band, and this song has consistently been on my fall/Halloween playlist for the past few years. I associate this song with the drive over to seeing scary movies at my local drive-in theater, Halloween parties with my friends, picnics in the middle of a park with the colorful leaves around us and more.

willow – Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift’s album “evermore” is mostly a winter album to me, but the song “willow” has a more autumnal feel. The lyric “life was a willow and it bent right to your wind” gives fall imagery.

Hard Feelings/Loveless – Lorde
“Melodrama” is a fall album, and I will die on this hill.

Fall is for seasonal hikes, watching the leaves turn and enjoying the cool weather. These tunes will enhance anyone’s fall experience and put you in the right mood for October.
