Last Tuesday, women’s volleyball started their week facing off against Washington and Jefferson at home. This game was an on your feet, back and forth battle.
Point Park was back and forth most of the first set, but a couple of costly errors led to a 25-21 set one loss. Set two was like the first, Point Park going neck and neck with The Presidents and eventually winning this set 25-20. Set three was a repeat story, both teams making highlight plays and earning each and every point. This set went in favor of the Presidents, with a close set three win at 27-25. Point Park led most of set four, but Washington & Jefferson fought hard to make it a closer set. Still, Point Park maintained their lead to win it 25-21. In a deciding set, the final score is to 16. This means that every point matters more than ever. Point Park would gain some ground after starting down at certain points in this set. Point Park just barely fell short, in a 16-14 set loss. This was an incredible performance, but the team is not quite there yet. Amanda Contois had herself an amazing game, with over 10 K’s. She also had game-winning plays every set.
On Friday, the Pioneers faced off against St. Mary-Woods. This game was a chance at gaining some momentum after a well-played loss earlier in the week. The first set was a tough loss with a 25-22 final score going in favor of St. Mary-Woods. The second set was a mostly one-sided matchup. St. Mary-Woods led all throughout this set, eventually winning 25-17. The third set was closer, but Point Park couldn’t keep up, leading to a sweep. Giulia Follador has been playing well since coming back from injury. This game showed such, as she led the team with 10 K’s.
On Saturday, the Pioneers met their conference rival IU Kokomo. In this matchup, the Pioneers started strong in set one, but the overall powerhouse team of Kokomo was too much. This game ended with a sweep in favor of Kokomo. Amanda Contois continued her strong season, having seven K’s in this matchup.
The women are now 3-11, with hopes to turn their season around. One negative the team looks to fix is their service errors, of which they have 110+ so far in the season. Point Park will be playing two more home games this week on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Student Center.
