Happy week 13, Pioneers! We hope you had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving break whether you traveled or stayed on campus. It is only a few more weeks until the end of the semester, and we wish you all the best in preparation for finals.
For this week’s Globe’s Point, we would like to address last issue’s story on the broadcasting capstone being eliminated. It is our duty to provide accurate and updated information. We previously reported that the shift to a capstone of media entrepreneurship was occurring currently. However, it was brought to our attention that this change was approved by the School of Comm curriculum committee, the School of Comm faculty, the University Curriculum Committee and the entire faculty assembly two years ago. This then led to the old capstone slowly being weaned out.
We also want to clarify that we are a newspaper for the entire campus community, for all six schools and all kinds of students, staff and faculty. Stories may focus on certain schools or majors from time to time, but at the end of the day, it is our mission to cover the entire community as fairly as possible, which is hard to do under our current conditions.
We currently have a staff of about eight consistent writers putting together an eight-page spread weekly. We are also trying to balance our schoolwork, jobs, other activities and mental health just like all of you. We are not complaining by any means and truly love what we do, but we think that it is very important to be open about our current situation. Journalists are people as well. Student journalists are people as well.
We highly encourage you all to attend our weekly pitch meetings on Mondays in the Center for Media Innovation classroom in West Penn at 2:40. You do not have to be a journalism major or even in the School of Comm to attend. If you are not interested in writing or taking photos, that is also okay. We want to hear ideas and feedback from all students, staff and faculty. We want to cover the campus community as best as we can because everybody deserves representation, and we cannot do that without you. You can always email us or message us on Instagram or X.
