The 2023-24 Cheer and Dance teams made their debut at the mens and womens basketball doubleheader on December 2. The teams performed cheers throughout the games and presented their own routines during halftime.
Point Park Cheer and Dance is composed of two separate teams, the cheerleading team and the dance team, both with their own students. The cheerleaders and dancers combined at the basketball game to perform sideline cheers, but the two teams performed routines separately.
The teams have spent the fall semester learning choreography and training for competition season. Their competition season kicks off after break, where they will get judged on their routines and compete against other teams.
The cheer team competes throughout the spring semester, showcasing their stunts, dances and cheers. They will compete in multiple competitions against other NAIA collegiate cheer teams. They will also attend a national championship through the National Cheer Association (NCA) taking place in April in Daytona, Florida.
In a similar fashion, the dance team competes against other NAIA dance teams starting in January. Their national championship is through the National Dance Association (NDA) which also takes place in Daytona.
Both teams will debut their competitive routines on Sunday, December 10 in the Student Center gym. It is free for Point Park students to attend.
Following the showcase, the teams have a scrimmage on December 16. Their first official meet is on January 19, where the teams will travel to Michigan for an NAIA competition.
