Happy week three, Pioneers! We hope you have been staying warm amid this crazy weather and are enjoying the semester so far. Remember to take advantage of the university’s resources such as the
Counseling Center, the Pioneer Pantry and even the Bison Exchange, as winter can be a tough time mentally, and winter clothing can be expensive. The days are slowly getting longer, so hang in there and remember that more sunlight is on the way!
Ever since we began Globe’s Point, we have consistently covered issues surrounding communication from the school’s administration. From the Federal Work Study program potentially ending early last spring to the resignation of former President Don Green, communication has sometimes not been clear, released at the most inconvenient times or is totally different than what local media outlets have been told. As students, staff and faculty, we deserve complete and honest communication from our administration no matter what, especially with the continuing implementation of Pioneer Vision 2030.
This semester started with several changes to student advising and continues with the athletics department. As members of this university, our voices deserve to be heard no matter what. We expect our tuition to go into improving what is already here and needs addressed, but instead, it essentially goes to these new hires’ salaries. We deserve to be a part of important decisions like the development of the new advising center and the future of the athletics department, not just receive random, vague emails about new decisions we have little involvement in. We need to know what merits new hires are decided on because we are the ones who experience the impact of changes. Even if you are not involved with sports and may not feel affected by a new athletic director, your input should still be considered.
Point Park is at a crucial moment, and we have the power to change its culture for the better. A university is so much more than a business, figuring out the next best way to bring in revenue. Honesty is the best policy, and as a student-run newspaper, we will always commit to honest reporting and will try to find the real truth as much as possible.
