Halloween treats to try before the tricks are over

Written By Tia Bailey

Halloween is this weekend, and that means that the transition from pumpkin to peppermint is coming soon. If you still haven’t quite gotten your spooky food and drink fix, here are some of the best Halloween and pumpkin-themed items to try before the season ends.

  • Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks: This is my personal favorite on the list. If you love cold brew but not super sweet coffee, this is perfect for you. They top their cold brew with a pumpkin cream cold foam and some pumpkin spice on top. This, to me, is the perfect fall drink.
  • Ghost Pepper donut from Dunkin’: Dunkin’s newest donut for the season is different from their others. The ghost pepper donut is a strawberry frosted donut with cayenne and ghost pepper mixed in and is dusted with bright red sprinkles. This surprisingly good donut will only be on the menu for a hot minute, so if you’re a fan of spicy food, try it before it’s gone.
  • Spider donut from Dunkin’: Okay, so if spicy donuts aren’t your thing, Dunkin’ also has a spider donut — a donut with orange frosting and a chocolate Munchkin in the center with frosting legs. This is a cute, Instagrammable treat with no tricks.
  • Boo Batter ice cream from Cold Stone: Like the spider donut, Cold Stone’s Boo Batter ice cream is more Halloween-y in appearance than in taste, but that doesn’t make it any less fun. It is cake batter ice cream with Kit Kats, Halloween Oreos and M&Ms mixed in . . . oh yeah, and the ice cream is pitch black.
  • Pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks and Dunkin’: This is obviously a “basic” choice, but it’s a classic. Hot or iced, from Starbucks or Dunkin’, a pumpkin spice latte is fall in a cup.
  • Pumpkin and mummy pancakes from IHOP: Let me preface this by saying you should not eat in at this restaurant due to Covid. That being said, IHOP does deliver through apps like Doordash and UberEats. They have pumpkin spice pancakes, and mummy pancakes. The latter is on the kids menu, but it’s a fun green pancake with cream cheese icing decorating the cakes as a mummy.
  • Insomnia Cookies: Insomnia is offering a small variety of Halloween-themed cookies. They have a pumpkin cheesecake cookie, and a “Peanut Butter Choco-Lantern,” which is a chocolate peanut butter chip cookie with jack-o-lantern sprinkles. Try and tell me this isn’t the perfect snack for a late-night scary movie marathon.
  • Pumpkin Pie Blizzard from Dairy Queen: Okay, so this one will probably stick around until Thanksgiving at least, but it’s still worth putting on the list. The pumpkin pie Blizzard is vanilla ice cream with actual pumpkin pie pieces and nutmeg swirled throughout.

Although some of the items on this list will probably stay for at least a few more weeks, it’s still sad to see the end of pumpkin season ending. Now, it’s time to prepare for the arrival of candy cane and peppermint mocha.
