Freshman mass communications major and Globe Copy Editor Carrie Reale has a passion for the Oxford comma. The first-semester staff member didn't let that deter her from getting involved with the Globe.
– Why did you join The Globe?
I like editing papers, and it seemed like a good fit.
– How did you hear about The Globe?
I heard about it from friends on my floor, newsstands across campus, and paying attention what's around campus. I remember picking up an issue when I visited an open house on campus.
– Why did you choose Point Park?
I was looking for a small school in a big city with a good communications program…need I say more?
– In three words, The Globe is:
Josh Croup's baby.
– In three words, Pittsburgh is:
Opposite of Philadelphia.
– If you were a brick on a brick wall, what brick would you be?
The brick that Kevin McCallister throws at Marv from the top of the apartment in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Marv definitely should have died after sustaining that injury, so to me it's a miracle brick. (Technically, it's not part of a brick wall, but I think it qualifies.)
– How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
*types the riddle into Google*
According to Wikipedia, the most trusted source of the human race, The Associated Press actually published an answer to this in 1988. Ignoring all of the science behind it, a woodchuck could move "about 711 pounds on a good day, with the wind at his back" (Richard Thomas). Another study interpreted the verb "chuck" to be "upchucking" published that a woodchuck could possibly eat about 361.9237001 cubic centimeters every day, and henceforth upchucking that much.
– What is your favorite holiday and why?
Definitely Thanksgiving because traditional Thanksgiving food is my favorite. My mom and grandmother are both incredible cooks, and sitting at a table eating food with people I love makes me happy.
– If you could sing one song on American Idol, what would it be?
A mash-up of Josh Groban's "The Best Tweets of Donald Trump" and "The Best Tweets of Kanye West". If you don't know what those are, please do yourself a favor and look them upon YouTube.
– What do you think dogs dream about?
Going to obedience school in only their underwear? Or maybe they have nightmares about doing something wrong and getting punished for it…that would be so sad.
– Anything else you'd like to add.
If there are no Oxford commas in this publication, those stinky editors took them out. LONG LIVE THE OXFORD COMMA. #ALLCOMMASMATTER
