Globe’s Point: Embrace the Halloween Spirit — on Thursday, Oct. 28

This week, we’d like to propose an idea. This might be a controversial idea, and it might be an idea that doesn’t take off, but it would be a very cool idea nonetheless.

Here’s what we’d like to propose: the Thursday before Halloween we should all wear costumes to class.

That’s right, we think that on Thursday, Oct. 28, we should all wear Halloween costumes to class. It doesn’t have to be the same costume that you wear on Halloween necessarily, just as long as it’s some sort of Halloween costume.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “why?” The answer to that is simple: it would be fun. Obviously, the past year and a half has been incredibly challenging and depressing for most (if not all) of us, and doing this just might make a few people happy.

Sure, if we do this, some people are going to be negative about it. Some people will give you an awkward glance, as if to say, “are you being serious right now?”If they do, just ignore them. For one day, just one day, (Thursday, Oct. 28) ignore all the negativity… and wear a Halloween costume. The Student Government Association could even declare Thursday, Oct. 28 as “Wear A Costume To Class Day,” or something like that.

You might be wondering why we keep repeating the date (Thursday, Oct. 28). That is because we want to make sure that everyone is clear that the date we’re doing this is Thursday, Oct. 28, and also so everyone remembers that the day we are doing this is Thursday, Oct. 28. If we mess the day up, and some people are wearing costumes on Wednesday, Oct. 27, or some people are wearing costumes on Thursday, Oct. 21, it’ll mess things up for people who wear the costumes on Thursday, Oct. 28.

You might also be thinking, “that’s fair, but why is The Globe writing about something almost a full month away?” The Globe Editorial Board believes that we need to give people ample planning time to get together their costumes, and so that we, as a student body, have enough time to all come together and agree that we are going to do this.

We also want to be clear this is only going to work if a bunch of people are in on it. If only one person shows up to class on Thursday, Oct. 28 in a Squid Game costume (or whatever ends up being the trendy popular costume this year) they are going to look out of place. But if 10 people show up to class on Thursday, Oct. 28 in costumes (for example: Batman, the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Joe Biden, Michael Cera, Peter Griffin, Scarlet Witch and someone from Squid Game), then that’s a start. However, if we all show up to class on Thursday, Oct. 28 in costume, that would be even better.
