Globe’s Point: Mid-March check-in

Happy week nine, Pioneers! We hope you remembered to change your clocks this past weekend and that you are feeling some of that seasonal depression wearing off! It is hard to believe that the end of the semester is only a little over a month away. We are so close and we wish you luck for the rest of the semester.

As course registration for students begins to open tomorrow, we also wish you all the best of luck, and hope that you not only get the classes required for graduation, but also the classes that you want to take. Fingers crossed PointWeb does not crash terribly —email your advisors if such occurs. If you do not know what courses you should be taking next semester, check in with your academic advisors; that is what they are there for.

We want to recognize Women’s History Month as March starts to come to a close. Women’s History Month represents all women — black women, trans women, plus size women, etc. March provides us all with an opportunity to research, write about, share stories and raise awareness of the diversity of women’s lived experiences and the work that still needs to be done to bring about gender equality.

As we take this month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to United States history, the pay gap between genders is still an issue and has remained relatively stable in the United States over the past 20 years. In 2022, women earned an average of 82% of what men earned, according to Pew Research Center analysis of median hourly earnings of both full and part time workers; for every dollar a man makes, a woman makes 82 cents simply because they are a woman.

Take some time in the remainder of this month and every month, to reflect on yourself and the important women in your life. We have the power to cause systemic change.
