Burgh Bites at The Eagle: Chewy fried chicken

Written By Cassandra Harris, Editor-in-Chief December 4, 2024
It was Saturday night when I went onto Google and reserved a table for two at The Eagle. We missed our reservation for 6:30 p.m., though, because I spent over 30 minutes looking for parking. Defeated, I gave up trying to park in the restaurant’s general vicinity and instead parked my car in the lot next to Conestoga Hall, taking a chilly 11 minute walk with my partner to the bar and chicken restaurant.

The food at Everyday Noodles restaurant was incredibly authentic. All the noodles are made by hand and the cooks do so behind a piece of glass so diners can watch. The owner works with the Taiwanese government to bring cooks to the United States, according to the restaurant’s website.

Burgh Bites: The boba at Fuku Tea slaps

I have never felt more insane than when I brought home five cups of boba, tea and smoothies at 8 p.m. Located on Forbes Avenue near Pitt’s campus, the teas from Fuku Tea were quite sweet, especially with the addition of boba topping or jelly for an additional upcharge.

‘Burgh Bites: Obama was right about Pamela’s Diner

Written By Cassandra Harris, Editor-in-Chief November 7, 2024
At a former President Barack Obama rally in the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse, he opened his speech by immediately endorsing “Pamela’s Pancakes” in the Strip District as a must-visit, tasty place to get pancakes. I was reporting at the event when I realized what he had done was put a golden feather in my lap for an election-themed Burgh Bites.

I have heard many good things about Condado Tacos on Liberty Avenue, a restaurant that serves tacos, tequila and margaritas.

Burgh Bites: The BERG in PPG replaces Chicken Guy

For the last three weeks, all I have tasted is food that deserves good reviewing, and it’s beginning to upset me. I haven’t been able to harshly critique anything recently because the food I’ve been trying has genuinely been kinda good. So next week, I will try to eat somewhere where I know the food is bad.

Burgh Bites: Pair Charcuterie has tasty cheese

Written By Cassandra Harris, Editor-in-Chief October 9, 2024
Located on the corner of Boulevard of the Allies and Smithfield Street, Pair Charcuterie opened in May. Both a coffee shop, seller of cheeses and meats, sandwiches and new soups, the store popped up as a result of the Greenwood Plan.

Burgh Bites: Cafe Momentum exceeds expectations

Written By Cassandra Harris, Editor-in-Chief October 2, 2024
Instead of only doing a food review this week, I decided to learn more about Cafe Momentum, a restaurant and non-profit in Market Square. Not only did I taste the food, but I also learned about its mission of providing kids 15 to 19 years old, affected by the juvenile system within the last 12 months, with paid internships.

Burgh Bites: Noodle Head, Spicy Noods

Located on 242 South Highland Avenue in Shadyside, Noodle Head is a place worth visiting. They cater to different taste buds, both for those who are spice-sensitive and for those who can take lots of spice.

Forbes Tavern: Don’t get the Dip

The Forbes Tavern, located on Forbes Avenue, is a right turn past the University Center, in the opposite direction of Market Square and just past the French bakery La Gourmandine. The entrance, labeled with a large sign, leads a customer inside to a room with three sports TVs and a bar littered with men and women in business clothing. Probably letting a load off after work around 6 p.m.
