CAB promotes school spirit with green and gold day

Kimmy Prelosky, Executive Director of CAB, helped students tie dye shirts in Village park during CAB’s “Green and Gold Day.”

Students lined up to tie dye T-shirts, indulge in snow cones and popcorn and capture moments in a photo booth in honor of this year’s Spirit Week.

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) brought members and volunteers to celebrate school pride in Village Park.

“For green and gold day, it’s all about showcasing our Point Park pride,” said Kim Prelosky, Executive Director of CAB.  “We are tidying our CAB shirts green and gold to show our school spirit.”

Prelosky has been on CAB’s Executive Board for three years, served as Special Events Chair, and now serves as Executive Director.  Prelosky was aiding Mary Beth Cartier, Vice President of Programming, who set up this event.

“Mary Beth is really in charge, she planned the whole thing top to bottom,” Prelosky said.  “[She] got everybody to sign up and volunteer, organize the activities, [and] all the food.”

Cartier took the responsibility of planning Green and Gold Day before CAB hired a Spirit and Traditions Coordinator.  Starting as a general member, she moved her way up the ladder.

“Last year was my first year here at Point Park.  I transferred from Penn State Behrend and I was a general member all last year, and I just applied and got the VP of Programming this year,” Cartier said.

Three freshman sports, arts and entertainment majors were volunteering at the popcorn station, and recently became involved with CAB.  Megan Thorpe, Ally Hindman and Taylor Delay were all eager to join a program that benefits their major.

Thorpe is now a member of the Explore Pittsburgh Committee.

“What I usually do is help plan Pittsburgh themed events, and today I just came and volunteered with the popcorn,” said Thorpe.  “I just joined to get involved and help with the program.”

Hindman was excited to speak about her recent involvement with CAB and plans for the future.

“I got involved because it has to do with event planning and thats what I want to do with my major,” said Hindman.  “ Also to meet people and explore all the options I have at Point Park.”

Pittsburgh has brought many opportunities for Hindman, who loves living in the city.

“Especially from being from a small town and moving to the big city, I just love the people and the culture and everything about the city.  Point Park’s classes are interesting and it keeps you engaged,” said Hindman.

Delay is CAB’s newest member, who worked the program into her busy class schedule.

“I came to today’s activities to see what CAB does and I really like the atmosphere, and how they plan events and market events,” Delay said.

Green and Gold Day was CAB’s third event of Spirit Week.  Monday brought a crowd of 55 students to a talent show.  Wednesday, students were sent off on a scavenger hunt, where Prelosky wanted to acclimate students to Point Park’s campus.

Although Spirit Week’s festivities have come to an end, students will have more chances to attend CAB events.  Cartier encourages students to haunt the halls of the Altar Bar at the Halloween dance on Saturday, Oct. 21.
