Local Band to drop second album and new music video

Local rock trio, Sound Servent, is one of the few local bands that truly understand the heart of rock and roll.

The band recently finished as a runner-up in SuperMonkey Recording Studios’ ‘Battle of the Bands’ this past weekend.

Despite their loss, lead singer Eddie Black describes the experience: “We lost the battle, but won the war. We got some recording time with Soundscape studios [in return].”

Sound Servant is a band comprised of three blue collar guys that hail from Mckeesport. Despite their full-time jobs during the daylight hours, Eddie Black (vocals), Danny Kastronis (bass) and Tom Kovack (drums) still find time to tear the roof off local venues like Altar Bar and Palisades. The group understands the bold, brash sound that epitomizes rock and roll.

The band is looking to use that studio time to record their second album and follow-up to “Disciple”, their debut album. More importantly the members of Sound Servent are looking for a videographer to help them put together their first music video for their single, “I Like to Rock.”

“It’s a great closer. It gets people wanting more,” says bassist Danny Kastronis.

The band describes the upcoming album as an album that will have a slightly different sound compared to their direct, hard edge approach.

“A few more stops off the highway; you know enjoy the scenery more,” as Eddie black puts it, “Our newer stuff is a bit different – more harmonic, real in-and-out style changes.”

The band wants to experiment a bit more with their sound and develop more of the distinctive edge that has helped propel their local popularity. The band’s single, “The Grind”, recently won The Akademia’s 2015 award for Best Rock Song.

It makes sense the trio wants to improve upon such success and enjoy the music they are putting forward for fans more.

As bassist, Kastronis says, “It doesn’t have to be a hard song to be a good song.”

Despite winning awards and opening for Jackyl in front of a 600-plus crowd – an experience the band deemed as their ‘most defining’ moment – the band remains humble.

“We love the fans. Without them, we’re nobody,” drummer Tom Kovach says.

The band continues to do right by their fans and continues to put their local Mckeesport on the map. The group was recently inducted in the Mckeesport Heritage Center for its local success and contribution to the Mckeesport community.

Sound Servent maintains its strong relationship with their hometown fans and increasingly pushes their own creative boundaries. They strive to be different and want to avoid the current pitfall of today’s rock music; a situation vocalist Eddie Black describes as, “too fast, nowadays” and too many of today’s rock songs sound “too similar.”

The band wants to bring their unique edge to the front of the local Pittsburgh rock scene and help redefine the current status quo of the rock genre.

The band’s next show is Saturday, September 12th at Turners in Mckeesport. For more information and inquiries about helping Sound Servent produce their first-ever music video, e-mail Eddie Black at [email protected] or visit the band’s Facebook page at facebook.com/SoundServent.
