Say ‘Hello’ to the newest healthy addition to Downtown

Point Park students have a new, healthier option for eating Downtown at Hello Bistro, on the corner of Forbes Avenue and Wood Street. The new restaurant, across from the University Center, is open daily until 9 p.m.

Students now have a new option to add to their downtown dining choices.  Right before the end of the fall 2014 semester, Hello Bistro opened across the street from the University Center.

Hello Bistro is a favorite among many college students, but they could only get their fill at the Oakland or South Side locations, until now.

Hello Bistro is known for its salads, burgers and fries.  It is a favorite among many because customers receive unlimited toppings when creating their own salads. It is also reasonably priced for the quality of food, according to students.

Lindsey Florence, a sophomore dance major, was happy when she saw the restaurant was putting in a Downtown location.

“As a dancer, I am very health-conscience about what fuels my body so that I can perform at my best, so Hello Bistro offers a healthy meal at a cost efficient price,” she said. “I also love how friendly the workers are and that they offer unlimited toppings, whereas Earth in Market Square doesn’t and it is more expensive.”

Hello Bistro does not offer a student discount. The Oakland location accepts Pitt Panther funds and Carnegie Mellon University dollars, but Point Park has not made a similar option possible.

The new addition to Downtown offers more than a great healthy option for food, giving students the opportunity to make some extra cash.

Key’Auna Brown is a sophomore pre-med major and a member of the women’s basketball team, so her schedule can get a little overwhelming at times.

“My manager is really flexible when it comes to basketball because he went to Pitt, and he knows how athletes need money and they have school work to do, so he is flexible,” Brown said.

Rob Morgan, general manager of Hello Bistro’s Downtown location, said the restaurant isn’t hiring right now, but a new concept might open up some positions.

“I don’t know if you guys know, but on the other side of the wall we paired up with another concept. It’s called Delicious Raw, and it’s basically a juice/smoothie concept,” Morgan said. “That’s actually going to open sometime in February, or in early March at the latest and depending how that goes, we may need to hire some more people.”
