The students from Point Park’s Honors student organization were looking for a way to make some money for The Alliance For Infants and Toddlers Toy Drive.
To continue a newly developed tradition, they will host their Third Annual Bake Sale during the 54th “Light Up Night” celebration, offering cookies, brownies, and cake pops outside the Patterson Building on Third Avenue.
“The baked good are made by honors students, typically just Executive Board members bake and decorate,” Nicholas Moran said.
Dean of Student Affairs, Keith Paylo, said in an interview that Point Park joined the free night of activities. “[Last year] We had ‘Elf’ playing in Alumni Park” Paylo said, “and we had hot chocolate and things like that.”
The Point Park buildings will not be open to the public during the Light Up Night celebrations, but students will have the opportunity to enjoy food and fun without venturing too far from their dorms.
The Honors Program will set up their table at 5 p.m. and will run while supplies last. They are also accepting monetary donations for the Alliance Toy Drive.
According to Honors Program Director, Helen Fallon, the bake sale last year was able to raise $500. “The staff [of the Alliance] there were just thrilled, speechless in fact. It helped them make Christmas much brighter for the young children and their families,” Fallon said.
The Campus Activities Board will also be giving away free food in Lawrence Hall Lobby from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This menu includes: hot pretzels, hot dog, salad, soda pop and water.
This event is only for Point Park students and faculty.
“Due to the Pittsburgh Light Up Night festivities scheduled downtown…staff employees may leave work early at 4:00 p.m.,” Catania said
All class, COPA rehearsals, and all COPA production activities will continue to be held as scheduled.
