Students Gather to “Get Lei’d” at Condom Carnival

Students flocked to the Lawrence Hall ballroom to win colorful condom prizes at Point Park’s annual Condom Carnival last Wednesday.

Point Park’s Condom Carnival has been the most attended event on campus for the past eight years. Campus clubs took part in the carnival by setting up their own tables with games for students to play.

“Hey, you got lei’d!” said Campus Activity Board (CAB) members as students received colorful Hawaiian leis after they entered the ballroom.

Before students could take part in the games, they were asked one true or false sex-related question, such as, “Is it true or false that herpes can live up to five minutes on a toilet seat?”

“People are blowing up condoms and yelling, ‘safe sex, kids!’” KacieJo Brown, a funeral services and mortuary science major said about the event.

Some students like Daniel Strickland, a secondary education major, found the event to be a learning experience.

“I think the carnival is very significant because it teaches young adults safe sex,” Strickland said.

Tory Doby, a freshman information technology major, said that everyone at the event looked like they were having a great time.

“There’s lots of smiling faces and everyone looks like they're having fun,” said Doby.

Some students like Ananda Miles, a freshman advertising and public relations major, and Ella Blue, a freshman business management major, hoped there would be more variety to the condoms offered. Both students were looking for non-latex condoms, but only latex was given out.

Along with free condoms and other safe sex materials at the event, students gathered around the snow cone bar. CAB offered a variety of flavors from piña colada to tiger blood – an orange and cherry flavored mixture.

Students left the Condom Carnival with useful educational sex facts and protection. For more information about events hosted by CAB, follow the organization on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
