Campus Activities Board serves up September events

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) calendar for September is jam packed with events planned to get students involved and meeting new people.

Kristen Musloe, a senior multimedia and public relations and advertising double major, is the advertising coordinator for CAB. She believes that it’s highly important for students to get involved in on-campus events.

“[The events are] a really fun way to get involved in something outside of what you typically would,” Musloe said in a recent interview, “Since our campus is downtown, it’s hard to find things to do, especially if you’re under 21, so we try to provide students with as much opportunity as possible to have fun.”

One of the first events scheduled for the month of September is Bison Bingo. In the past, it has been one of the most popular events sponsored by CAB.

Bingo each month focuses on a specific theme, with this month’s being “Back to School”. Prizes awarded throughout the night will tie into the theme, from dorm accessories to Point Park gear.

Bison Bingo takes place on the third Thursday of every month as part of the Pioneer Series, a group of three separate monthly events consisting of Coffeehouse, Point Park After Dark and Bingo. The event will be held in the Lawrence Hall Ballroom on Sept. 15 from 9-11 p.m.

Just two days after Bison Bingo, two more events are being hosted on campus.

The Yinzer party will bring the excitement of game day to Point Park University without stepping foot off campus. The party will include Pittsburgh themed foods and tailgating games while the Pittsburgh Pirates game is broadcast live.

“I love PNC Park and I love the atmosphere that it brings, so I really wanted to duplicate that and have a way for students to really get to appreciate everything without the price,” said Kristi Chenarides, a junior sports, arts and entertainment management major and CAB’s Experience Pittsburgh Coordinator.

The party will be held in Village Park on Sept. 17 starting at 3:30 p.m. directly following the Yinzer party.

Later that day, beginning at 7 p.m., Point Park students will have a chance to relax in Village Park and listen to 28 North, an alternative pop/rock band from the Pittsburgh area.

Kaitlyn Smith, a sophomore business management major and CAB’s Special Events Coordinator, is very excited to be bringing the annual concert series to Point Park again this year.

“[The Concert Series] is going to be a lot of fun. There will be fantastic music. There’s always good food,” Smith said during a phone interview. “I think it’s a great chance to meet new people and just hang out and relax.”
