SGA recognizes ongoing conflict in Ukraine with moment of silence

President Pro Temporo Nina Grund announced this year’s election board appointments at the beginning of the meeting and discussed what their positions entail.

“I have been in contact with one representative from CAB, WPPJ, and The Globe for Election Board Appointments, which happens at this specific time each year after spring break,” said Grund. “They will be in charge of counting ballots and recounting ballots. We go to them in the case of ties, and they will get trained with certain members of the executive cabinet on how to do all the parts of these positions.”

In addition to new appointments, Frankie Bracey was named Acting Recording Secretary as previous Recording Secretary Anna Skeels announced their resignation during spring break.

“As you all saw, Anna announced their resignation over break,” said President Dennis McDermott. “Senator Bracey will be acting Recording Secretary until one is officially appointed because she is vice-chair on the Student Innovation Committee.”

In reports of standing committees, Bracey discussed upcoming tabeling events for the organization to gauge student interest and hear student complaints.

“I will be tabeling on March 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. outside the cafe,” said Bracey. “There will also be a booth during Pioneer Community Week, and most likely one other before the end of the semester.”

Another thing discussed during the meeting was the Uno Club, which was recently approved to be an organization again.

“We [Rules Committee] approved Uno Club last week,” said Parliamentarian Kairi Stallsmith. “It is no longer a league that goes to professional competitions but just meets like regular clubs. Their purpose is to meet a few times a month to play Uno and meet new people.”

The meeting ended with a statement from senator Tyler Heckel on the current Russian invasion of Ukraine and conflict, as the “organization is a democratic one.” The group took a moment of silence in support of Ukraine before dismissing.

Treasurer Maggie Heir restated that Spring 2 Funding requests by student organizations are open until today, March 9 until 11:59 p.m. and forms “can be accessed on SGA’s PointSync page.”
