If you’re at all like me, you’re probably a major fan of the fall season and everything associated with it. Since fall started on Sept. 22, I figured it might be good to put this article out to get a feel for the various ways to get ready for and celebrate fall.
The biggest thing I’d like to start with is decorating. Fall is the perfect time to decorate your dorm. The warm, orange tones of the decorations can make a space feel cozy. If you own an oil diffuser, it could be a good idea to put cinnamon or pumpkin spice oils in it to get into the fall mood.
This time also provides a perfect opportunity to decorate for Halloween. Even though the month of October is dedicated to horror, there is no societal restriction like there is for Christmas to decorate for Halloween. This means you can still decorate for Halloween any time of year. However, you can realistically decorate for any season at any time whenever you want. Don’t let others stop you.
Speaking of horror, consider planning a marathon of horror movies throughout the month of October. There are a wide array to choose from, and you can even have your own “31 Days of Halloween” movie marathon.
Invite your friends, get Halloween-themed snacks and drinks, and just enjoy. Maybe throw a Stephen King book or three in there.
If you’re not a fan of horror, don’t worry! There are still plenty of things to do during the fall season for non-horror enthusiasts.
For example, now is the perfect time to spend some time outside — when it’s not downpouring, of course.
The leaves are starting to change color and the air is starting to feel crisper. The weather is going to start becoming mild in preparation for winter, and the leaves won’t be around for long.
Go to Point State Park and sit in the field. The trees there are already turning. It creates a wonderful view in perfect hoodie weather that you can’t find in any other season — if it were cold enough yet.
Go to Starbucks and get a venti pumpkin spice latte with oat milk and two shots of espresso. Or if you don’t support Starbucks, go to Dunkin. Or support local businesses and go to Nicholas Coffee, YINZ coffee or anywhere else that isn’t corporately owned.
The best holidays — Halloween and Thanksgiving — land within fall. Plan a Thanksgiving potluck with your friends or club, or host a Thanksgiving event, perchance.
Now is also the perfect time to visit any outdoor-centric attractions that you wish to go to before it gets too cold. On Oct. 4, the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Oakland will be hosting a Fall Flower Show with displays inspired by Japan. From Oct. 2 to Nov. 2, the Pittsburgh Zoo is holding its “Jack O’Lantern Extravaganza” event, showcasing a wide array of creative jack-o’-lanterns.
Pumpkin carving can also be a fun activity to do. Some Downtown stores are already selling pumpkins! The closest place to buy one from Point Park’s campus is the Target on the corner of Smithfield Street and Fifth Avenue.
With the fall season already here, don’t miss out on all of the opportunities that will be presented with it. From fun activities, to spooky nights full of scares, there is no shortage of fun in the fall season.
