Basketball team finds difficulties in not having a home court

Marissa Reinhard, a junior behavioral science major, is a forward on the women’s basketball team.

Reinhard played on the Plum High School basketball team before she was recruited to Point Park University.

“It was fun, a lot of good times; I miss them,” Reinhard said.

Reinhard finds it difficult when it comes to practices at Point Park due to the lack of a gymnasium. Most colleges and universities have gyms for the athletic teams to practice in.

“We don’t even have a gym. We practice at the Y, or we play at CCAC South,” Reinhard said.

“It’s really hard because we’re bouncing all around from the YMCA to CCAC South, and it’s just an inconvenience that we have to drive all the way out there. It would be really nice if we had our own gym, so that we could have some of our student fans come and watch us. It would be nice to have a gym on campus to have some support there,” Reinhard said.

Having student support is important for many athletes when playing home games, and having a gym to play home games in would help bring in student support.

“I think it would be a lot of fun,” Reinhard said. “Other schools, their kids are there cheering, listeing to music,” Reinhard said.

But for now Point Park women’s basketball team will have to settle for the support of their families who travel to the games.

“I really care that my family is there, and everyone else’s families are there. But it is nice to see all the families and all the kids there. It’s just a real homey, close knit environment,” Reinhard said.

Emily Anderson, a freshman intelligence and national security major, played on the Plum basketball team with Reinhard.

“I have known Marissa since elementary school,” Anderson said. “We tried out in high school together.”

Sam Kosanovich took over as head coach in April 2006 and Reinhard was one of his first recruits after he became head coach.

“Marissa sent me a DVD and play profiles that all the players ship out when they are looking for a location,” Kosanovich said. “She through that Point Park was a good fit for her, not only for basketball, but the academic end of it as well. She is a versatile player, and her teammates like her and the coaching staff as well.”
