Black and white clothing remain fashion forward

Now for the fashions that have kicked the bucket: the ’80s. Harrop said the trend comes and goes, and also that the peasant look is not really a style. One other big no-no, according to Harrop, is embellished blouses.

“Cute blouses with ruffles on the sleeves or collars can be overkill sometimes,” she said.

As much as young girls still wear them, skinny jeans have made the out-list for the new year. Web sites, such as The Junk Box, a blog written by “Jared,” and iVillage assert that skinny jeans were cool for a while, but now everyone has them. “Jared” shares that it is OK to have one pair of skinny jeans, but warns people not to go overboard. “Jared” suggests straight-leg vintage jeans instead.

The Junk Box also added that ripped jeans and rain boots with wacky designs have definitely come and gone. The Junk Box stresses that both styles tend to make a person look unprofessional and childish.

Everyone is different, and people like different things, even if it is not on the “in” list anymore, Harrop said.

“A lot of times pretty much anything goes. It’s all about your attitude,” Harrop said. “If you are confident with yourself and your clothes, you can work it.”
