Resolution passes, sets guidelines for leftover funds

At this week’s Point Park University United Student Government (USG) legislative meeting a resolution was passed that acknowledged that the remaining unallocated budget money would be left to the incoming USG president at the end of the school year to distribute accordingly during the rest of the budget’s fiscal year. Remaining funds must be spent on improvements in the Student Organization Office and the installment of bulletin boards in the West Penn building. After the funds are appropriately allocated according to these guidelines, the president may then use the remainder of the budget to benefit the students of Point Park in any way seen fit.The treasurer’s report indicated that $8,198.82 remained in the budget after allocations, and the actual budget is $32,391.28.Year’s end purchases agreed upon included $2,000 allocated to the purchase of the OrgSync website, orgysync.com, which Director of Student Activities JW Tabacchi said would be convenient for students because “instead of having to go in emails or Word documents, they literally can just go into OrgSync, do it all from there and it’s documented, and they will have an easy way to transcribe information.”One stipulation was added to the funding allocation, which states that student organizations will have first pick of the “portals,” which are organization-focused content outlets on an OrgSync website. The Pittsburgh Playhouse ticket budget will also receive $2,800 in allocations, a $100 increase from last semester. For the Commuter Club, $2,700 was allocated to aid the production of a commuter orientation booklet. The Rules Committee approved proposals for two new clubs, one of which was included the Action Sports Club, a future outlet for both students interested in extreme sports, who will be able to take sports excursions as club members, as well as cinema and digital arts and photography majors who will have the opportunity to build their portfolios. The Independent Student Production Company, was the second club approved and will give students experience with the production of films and hopes to create a Point Park film festival fundraiser.
