The gym on the fourth floor of the Student Center will be undergoing renovations sometime this year, according to Derrick Cook, its coordinator.
Details are not finalized on the renovations yet. As of reporting, the weight room and cardio room will both be upgraded.
A timeline has not been set yet, according to administration, but refurbishing is expected to occur sometime in either the spring or summer.
The fourth floor currently has three rooms of equipment. Treadmills and ellipticals are provided for cardio, while dumbbells, kettlebells, strength machines and other free weights are offered for strength training.
“Size may not be something we have a lot of,” Cook said, “but [it’s] efficient and has enough equipment to get a good workout in.”
Max Rolinson, a first-year biological sciences major, said that while he was satisfied with the gym’s current facilities, he thought it could use an upgrade.
“Sometimes I’ll be in the weight room and it’ll be busy,” Rolinson said. “There’ll be a sports team in here, for example, and so a lot of stuff is taken up.”
“A lot of weights are taken up usually, and sometimes people are using certain machines. But I mean, that’s really not that bad. Just wait a little bit and they should be off,” Rolinson said.
Keith Paylo, vice president of student affairs and dean of students, said that more information on the renovations will be released “as soon as possible.”
