Assault on Labor Day: According to Point Park Chief of Police Jefferey Besong, two people got into a fight on Sept. 1, around 11:20 p.m. Besong said the victim of the original attack had a knife. After a PointALERT was sent to everyone subscribed to the service, Pittsburgh Police took over the call.
Besong said Pittsburgh Police did not decide to charge either person because they determined it was a “mutual assault” involving self-defense.
Additionally, Besong noted that Point Park Police have the power to arrest people who have open warrants on their record once the warrant is confirmed with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s office.
Village Park drug citation: A man was found with pieces of crack rock and a cocaine pipe, according to Besong. The man was given a non-traffic citation and moved along.
Besong said drug citations usually don’t end in a visible arrest because paraphernalia alone is not enough to justify taking a suspect to the Allegheny County Jail unless they have a “large amount.”
Missing headphones: Point Park Police responded to a report of a theft. A student reported their headphones went missing and they were found in the Lawrence Hall dining hall.
