A woman was assaulted by a 50-year-old woman on Third Avenue early morning on Sept. 1.
According to university police Chief Jeffrey Besong, a woman was punched in the head and had her hair pulled out by another woman around 4 a.m. The suspect was not named but was arrested by Point Park police at 4:07 a.m.
A PointALERT notification was sent to the campus community at 5:10 a.m. for the initial assault, identifying the suspect as a black woman wearing all black clothing. A second notification announcing her arrest was sent at 6 a.m.
The delay in sending a PointALERT notification is because alerts are not sent until it is approved by the police department, Besong said.
Additionally, alerts are only sent on a timely basis and still have an immediate effect on campus.
By the time the alert was sent, the scene on Third Avenue had already cleared besides one Point Park police car.
It is unclear what charges the 50-year-old woman will face.
