Point Park University is making changes across campus, including the relocation of the Center for Entrepreneurship and New Technologies (CENT) and renovations in Thayer Hall and the John V. Hand (JVH) theater.
CENT moved from the second floor of Thayer Hall to the second floor of the Green Building at 101 Wood Street, across from Bison Bites & Brews (B3).
“This new space is ideal for the CENT at its current size,” Donald Marinelli, director of CENT said. “It benefits from possessing project rooms, lots of windows, and an easily identified building.”
Staff were informed of the move in advance and received help from Physical Plant to move equipment and furniture.
“We were told of the impending move with more than enough time to adjust. We also received excellent assistance from Physical Plant to move our equipment and furniture to the new space,” Marinelli said.
Renovations in Thayer Hall and JVH are ongoing.
Vice President of Operations Chris Hill said the project is about one-third of the way complete.
“Part of the project includes the first-floor restrooms in Academic Hall. Demolition in this area occurred this week and should be cleaned up and ready to begin finishing next week,” Hill said.
The walls in the circulation and lounge areas on the second floor of Thayer Hall have been refinished and painted, and demolition work is complete in the JVH.
The Welcome Center lounge, circulation, and counseling areas are expected to be done by mid-October. The Welcome Theater is expected in November.
“The largest impact will be the new, elevated look of the space with new finishes and PPU branding elements throughout, as well as technology upgrades,” Hill said. “It will be a showcase space for potential students and their families as well as current students, faculty, and staff to enjoy.”
Marlin Collingwood, Vice President of Enrollment, said the Green Building may become a welcome center in the future, but there are currently no funds to renovate it. The building currently houses CENT, administrative offices, and support for online programs.
