Globe’s Point: Please practice self-care during midterm week

Happy midterms week, Pioneers! We are officially halfway through the semester! We sincerely hope everyone has been having a great semester so far and have been able to get rest and relaxation throughout the chaos of it all. We want to remind you that what you are doing is important and encourage you to push through this mid-semester stress.

Midterms are undoubtedly a very stressful time for us all. Papers, exams, projects piling up on one another, pulling all-nighters and drinking countless Red Bulls to complete work on time. What you are doing is hard work. It is important to remember what you are working towards and always keep your end goal at the forefront. Everything you are doing is getting you closer to reaching your goals.

Midterms can feel less rewarding and more damaging to your mental and physical health, but take a moment to step back, look at what you have accomplished, and be truly proud of yourself. It becomes so easy to doubt ourselves and ignore our accomplishments, but remember to lean on your support system throughout this stressful time and take care of yourself. Reward yourself with your favorite takeout or watching a movie or anything self care related after that difficult exam or finally submitting that project because you so very much deserve it!

It’s also important to note that the counseling center has resources available. Burnout, depression, and anxiety are all very real, and if you need help it is important to seek it. Aside from counseling and or therapy, practicing mindfulness is very important. Take time for yourself, whether that’s yoga, a guided meditation, reading a nice book with a hot cup of chamomile tea, or just plain taking a nap.

As we enter the second half of the semester, it is a great time to stop, take a breather, and reset to push through the remaining weeks. Finals are going to be here before you know it. Soak up as much as you can. Make sure to take time for yourself and your friends. Try to make the most out of the college experience because as cliche as it is, you truly only do live once. Life moves really fast. If you don’t stop and smell those roses, you will miss out on so much.

You got this, Pioneers! We believe in you!
