Freshman wrestler Liam Hein earned All-America honors from the National Collegiate Wrestling Association on Saturday after the conclusion of the NCWA National Championships in Bossier City, La.
Hein became the first Point Park wrestler to earn All-America honors, after finishing eighth in the 149 weight class out of over 60 wrestlers. He was the only Point Park wrestler to place.
The tournament took place from Thursday to Saturday, and Hein was one of three Point Park wrestlers to qualify for Friday’s matches.
He went 5-3 on the weekend and fell in the seventh-place match 2-0 against a Division II wrestler from Ferrum College.
After qualifying for the second round, Hein opened Friday with two wins versus Division I competitors from Texas A&M and Colorado State.
The NCWA tournament marks the conclusion of Point Park’s first-ever season for the men’s wrestling program. Competition will resume next winter under coach Zach Mizer.
