Happy week four of classes, Pioneers! It is hard to believe that we are already one month into the semester. We hope you are all doing well in your classes and well mentally. A new month can bring a little boost to all of us, putting the struggles of the past month behind us.

Healthcare is one of those subjects which quickly become more controversial as you get older. Suddenly getting an annual check-up might be skipped for years just to avoid spending money. The complexities of American medical care creates layers which cannot be delved into fully in this article. Students in Pittsburgh may have easier access to healthcare than expected for them as a whole.

It was winter break, and I was on the way to work riding the bus out of the North Side. I remember that during my bus rides before moving onto campus I would regularly see a large homeless encampment on Stockton Avenue. While I thought it was unfortunate, seeing the encampment did not bother me; rather, I just hoped that the people in such a situation could find housing and were not bullied by the city.

With talks of university-backed bus passes finally making progress, my first thoughts are those of enthusiasm. As someone whose only reliable modes of transportation are walking and public transit, the benefits were clear to me right from the beginning. Other universities in the city have recognized and acted on this need long before Point Park has.
