Pioneers win against Grove City, keep streak strong

The Pioneers kept their streak strong, winning against Grove City last Tuesday.

After a rough start when Grove City scored a goal just three minutes into the game, the Pioneers put up a fight to make sure they came out on top.

Junior Lucas Godinho started off the first goal for Point Park, while Max Flick finished off with the game winning goal in the 57th minute of the game.

“The circumstances of this game were not favorable to our team, primarily because we were playing in their field,” Godinho said. “Another aspect was the bad conditions of the grass as result of the rain which hurt our team since we were more technical than them.”

Grove City led in shots 17-14 and put on a good offensive in the last 45 minutes, but that didn’t stop the Pioneers.

Goalkeeper Zak Borzovoy made four saves for the Victory.

“In the first minutes of the match, they scored against us which made the challenge harder. Even with all these challenges we were able to convert the score and take the eighth consecutive victory that proved how strong and determinate are this season,” Godinho said.

Point Park also dropped down in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Top 25 poll from rank 21 to rank 23.

The Pioneers were passed in the poll by Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.), who went from No.24 to 21 and by Hope International (Calif.), who went from No. 25 to 22.

Point Park’s current record is 12-2 overall, 2-0 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Association (KIAC). The team’s next game was on Tuesday Oct. 28th against Salem International University.
