Point Park indoor track and field closed out a historic weekend on Saturday at the YSU Collegiate Mid-Major in Youngstown, Oh.
The two-day meet ended in 16 personal record times, two broken records and 25 top-10 finishers for the Pioneers.
Point Park faced off against over 40 other universities on the NCAA Division I, II and III level.
The Pioneers toed the line with nearby schools such as Duquesne, Indiana (Pa.) and West Liberty.
The Point Park women’s team walked away with 15 of the top-10 finishes and both of the broken records.
Sophomore Cassondra O’Connor continues to break barriers in long-distance running at Point Park. She went for gold with a PR time on Friday in the 5000m race, capturing a first-place spot with 17 minutes and 31.1 seconds.

O’Connor’s performance ranked second-best in school history and 44th in NCAA DII times so far this season. The only other first-place
finish in the weekend came from first-year runner Dunya van den Tooren in the women’s pentathlon high jump. Her jump of 1.65m solidified her as the second-highest performer in Point Park history and the 50th-highest performance in DII indoor track this season.
Additionally, Van den Tooren broke a school record in the pentathlon final with 3,134 points for seventh place in the meet.
Junior Lotte Zethof broke a Point Park record of her own in the women’s 500, recording a 1:21.01 time for second place. First-year Paige Marnell finished less than one second later for a fourth-place finish and the second-best time in school history.
Senior Jana Schmid continued her dominant season in distance running, placing third in the 1000 with a PR time of 3:01.62. As for the men’s team, 10 Pioneers cracked a top-10 spot against extremely worthy opponents.
Senior Jannik Windelband broke the top 10 in two different events. He placed fourth in the mile with 4:20.42 and sixth in the 800 with 1:57.06. His 800 time ranked fourth in the Point Park record book.
First-year Kamar Sutherland competed in the 60m hurdles, taking 7th place with a time of 8.50.
Maxwell Goode took 10th place in the triple jump with 13.00m, and junior Michael Quigley just missed the top 10 with PR of 12.72m jump for 14th place.
After breaking his own school record last month at the Jud Logan Memorial Meet, sophomore Akeem Mustapha beat 50 other competitors in the long jump. He earned a second-place spot with 7.44m.
Senior David Attram made a statement in the field events, earning notable placements in the shot put open and the weight throw elite. He placed second in the shot put and ninth in the weight throw. Attram’s weight throw of 14.36m ranked fourth in program history.
The Point Park men’s and women’s teams continue their dominant indoor season this Saturday at the Sykes & Saybock Challenge hosted by Penn State in State College
