The Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted kickstart a “White Out” game day initiative with It’s On Us during a Point Park basketball doubleheader on Tuesday at CCAC Allegheny Gymnasium, at 5:30 p.m.
SAAC aims to serve as the voice of student-athletes via engagement with administrators and the community, according to committee leaders.
The committee partnered with It’s On Us, an organization dedicated to preventing sexual assault and supporting survivors, to create an interactive game-day experience.
In addition to the “White Out” theme, fans participated in raffles, half-court shot challenges, and giveaways.
Attendees received a free bracelet upon entry and will have the chance to win prizes such as a JBL speaker, a weighted blanket and a digital camera.
The event is designed to be accessible and engaging for the entire campus community, according to SAAC.
SAAC members appointed president Austyn Burkett, a junior on the women’s soccer team, in the fall after a three-month vacancy of the position. Burkett formerly served as treasurer of the committee.
“I really wanted to just bring a sense of teamwork into SAAC,” Burkett said. “I really think this group can set a standard for upcoming athletes here at [Point Park]. This group is full of amazing people and great athletes, and I think we all want to leave a mark as [Point Park’s] first NCAA SAAC organization.”
Burkett said that the event will not only raise awareness for the cause, but it will also help bolster the student section and make students “want to come and support the athletics here at Point Park,” moving forward.
Shuttle service from Point Park to CCAC will occur from 4:30-5:30 p.m., 20 minutes between games and until roughly 7:30 p.m.
Women’s basketball takes on Fairmont State at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s team takes its turn with the Falcons at 7:30 p.m.
Point Park students, staff and faculty receive free admission to both games with a valid Point Park ID.
