Point Park volleyball traveled to West Virginia State on Saturday, where the team lost 3-0 to the Yellowjackets.
After going down 5-1 in the first set, Point Park came back and took a 9-6 lead. West Virginia State then made a comeback of their own and would go on to win the set 25-18.
The second set was much closer, with the two teams trading points early in the set. The Yellowjackets would eventually take the lead, but the Pioneers tied it up once again. The score sat at 23-23 as the set neared its end.
But it was West Virginia State who would secure the last two points they needed for the 25-23 win.
Point Park never held the lead in the third set. A late push of four straight points to make the score 22-17 put the Yellowjackets on edge, with the team calling a timeout. The Pioneers added another point immediately following that timeout, but West Virginia State got back to their game and took the third set 25-19.
With Saturday’s loss, the Pioneers have extended their losing streak to nine games.
Point Park setter Nicole Reasbeck led the match in kills with 15, adding to her total of 217. She leads the team in total kills. Outside Hitter Carmen Pérez led West Virginia State in kills with 10.
The Pioneers will be in search of their first home win of the season this week. Following a match on Tuesday against Frostburg State, Point Park will face West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday at 7 p.m.
