The Point Park University women’s volleyball team won two of its last three games, including a 3-0 conference win over their Oakland neighbor, Carlow University.The other two games were played this past Saturday in the Shippensburg Tri-match where the Pioneers won one game and lost the second. Last week, the Carlow Celtics put up a good fight staying close the entire match. After being tied 20-20, the Pioneers pulled ahead and won the match 25-22. The second game started close but Point Park quickly showed their dominance over the Celtics and won the game 25-8. After intermission the Pioneers were tied with the Celtics 10-10 in the third game. But Point Park was too much for Carlow- Senior Rachel Roddy, ride side hitter, served the next eight points to give Point Park the lead. Carlow never recovered, and Point Park won a decisive 25-15 match. Sophomore Lindsey Oberacker, outside hitter, had a total of 15 kills for the night, six more than her leading Carlow opponent, Leah Stack, who had nine kills. Point Park had a total of 37 kills for the night while Carlow only had 24 kills. This past weekend, Point Park beat East Stroudsburg University 3-0 with scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-16. Oberacker had a total of 12 kills, with Roddy following close behind with 11. Junior setter Katie Geary had a total of 38 assists for the game. The Pioneers lost their second march of the day to Shippensburg with 3-1 score. Point Park won the first game 25-20 but could not hold on and lost the next three games, and lost 20-25, 22-25, and 23-25. Oberacker had a total of 16 kills for the game but Shippensburg’s hitter Jill Edwards had a total of 19 kills for the game. Point Park’s Geary had a total of 45 assists for the game, three less than the entire Shippensburg team. Point Park is now 3-1 when playing teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with their two games on Saturday. The other two victories in this conference came against Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and Slippery Rock Univesity. Point Park is currently 13-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Their next home game is a conference game against their rivals Walsh University at 7 p.m. The game is United Student Government (USG) T-shirt night and there will be a fan van to the game.
